John Lee Elected as Hong Kong’s Sixth Chief Executive: Entrepreneurs Discuss Future Opportunities on CGTN
On May 8, 2022, John Lee was elected as the sixth Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) with an overwhelming majority, marking a pivotal moment for the city's governance.
As the election concluded, Dr. Li Shihao, founder and CEO of E3A Healthcare, joined three Hong Kong entrepreneurs on CGTN’s Global Business program, hosted by Yingchun, to share their perspectives on the new administration and Hong Kong’s economic future
The panel emphasized that change brings opportunity. While acknowledging the challenges facing the new SAR government—such as income inequality, soaring housing prices, and ongoing pandemic control measures—they expressed confidence in Hong Kong’s resilience and its global standing as a leading financial hub. They credited this optimism to the support and leadership of the central government.
The entrepreneurs unanimously identified key priorities for the new administration, including driving economic recovery, leveraging strategic opportunities from China’s 14th Five-Year Plan, and deepening integration within the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. They stressed the importance of long-term planning, positioning Hong Kong for sustainable growth, and balancing traditional strengths with innovation-led diversification.
The panel also discussed the need for Hong Kong to navigate the complexities of the international landscape, proactively manage risks, and adapt to global changes. By doing so, they believe the city can continue to contribute to both national development and its own prosperity.
